Heating Maintenance Checklist
We provide a comprehensive preventive maintenance tune-up that includes a complete
safety check-up in addition to all the regular maintenance. This includes electronic carbon
monoxide testing and checking for gas leaks in addition to the safety control checks listed
below.
Thermostat Check
- Check the thermostat for dust and dirt (level if needed).
- Check the setting of the heat anticipator.
- Check for proper calibration.
Blower Motor Check
- Check all wiring in blower compartment for loose connections.
- Clean blower compartment.
- Check motor and blower bearings.
- Oil motor and blower bearings.
- Check pulley and drive alignment (adjust if needed).
- Check fan belt for wear and proper tension.
Burner Check
- Remove burners and chemically clean (as needed).
- Remove pilot assembly and clean.
- Check and adjust primary air to all burners.
- Check manifold gas pressure.
- Check pilot flame (adjust if needed).
Safety Control Check
- Check high limit safety (adjust if needed).
- Check fan on and off temperature settings.
- Check safety on gas valve for proper drop off settings.
- Check thermocouple.
- Check termerature drop over heat exchanger.
- Check unit for gas leaks with an electronic leak detector.
- Check unit for carbon monoxide leaks with an electronic leak detector.
Combustion Chamber Check
- Visually inspect heat exchanger for cracks, holes, or rust forming.
- Check all sections for proper draw.
Electrical
- Check amp draw on blower motor.
- Check amp draw on thermostat.
- Visual check of low voltage and power wiring.
